Discover the unique story of an extraordinary resistance cell.
This monument was inaugurated on 11 November 2020.
Between 1943 and 1944, hundreds of young people went up to La Girotte to help build the dam.
This group formed the Compagnie du Lac, commanded by Captain Jean Bulle and Captain Albert Escande, an engineer working on the site.
In addition to the training provided on site, these Resistance fighters took part in numerous battles in the run-up to the liberation. They also supervised the massive parachute drop from Les Saisies on 1 August 1944.
The memorial is accessible from Belleville or the Col du Joly via the hamlet of Colombe: on foot (approx. 9km loop, 565m ascent, approx. 4hrs 15mins) or by mountain bike (via a gravel road) in summer; on snowshoes or cross-country skis in winter.
