Dog hiking

Dog hiking is an outdoor activity practised in the mountains, accompanied by a dog. At Les Saisies, this outing takes place on accessible trails, between mountain pastures, forests and open views of the Beaufortain. The principle is simple. The walker is linked to the dog by a belt and a cushioned lanyard. The dog leads the way, setting the pace and helping the walker along. The walk becomes more fluid. The step is regular. The effort is shared.

A nature activity accessible to all

The cani-rando in Les Saisies is aimed at a wide audience. Adults, children, families and groups can all take part. No particular experience is necessary. All you need is the ability to walk on mountain paths.

The routes are adapted to the level of the participants. The pace is gradual. There will be breaks to observe the scenery, listen to the musher’s explanations and take your time.

It’s an activity that lets you discover the mountains in a different way. You’ll come into contact with living things. You learn to communicate with your dog. You get a better feel for the terrain, the slopes and the changes in the ground.

The dog is not just a companion. He becomes a real walking partner. He leads the way. He transmits his energy. It makes you want to keep going.
Before setting off, time is set aside to meet the animal. The basic rules are explained. You learn how to guide the dog, how to talk to it and how to position yourself correctly.
As you go along, a relationship develops. Trust is established. The walker understands the dog’s reactions better. The dog senses the person’s rhythm.

Accessible ski lifts

In summer at Les Saisies, some ski lifts allow you to take your dog up to higher altitudes. This gives access to gentler, more scenic itineraries, with no long climbs from the resort.

The cani-rando takes on a whole new dimension. The start is higher up. The landscapes are more open. Alpine pastures, gentle ridges, distant views of the Beaufortain.

It’s also a way of conserving energy. You get more out of the route. You spend more time walking, less time climbing.
