The Girotte dam was built in 1946. It was the first in Beaufortain. It is one of the rare dam to be filled with the water coming from "Tré la Tête" glacier next to the Mont-Blanc. That is why the color of her water can be so special green.

At 1750 m high this lake used to be a natural one. Now there is a huge dam which was first to be built in Beaufortain in 1942. There are about 13 km of galleries to drive the water from Tré la Tête glacier to the lake.
